I offer Person-Centred therapy for a range of life worries and challenges and have expertise in working with race and racial identity. This includes following areas:
- Race-related anxiety and depression.
- Racism, discrimination and oppression.
- Living cross-culturally and cultural transplantation.
- Interracial family issues (including relationships and dating).
- Mental health challenges for Black and Asian communities.
- Generational trauma, heritage and family issues.
- Racial and cultural practices and influences.
- Cultural shame and cultural isolation.
You might be feeling powerless, exhausted or deflated as you try to manage the various difficult life stresses you face. Over time this can lead to low self-confidence, low self-esteem and loneliness with a feeling of no one or nowhere to turn to. The origin of this/these problems may or many not be clear but you’ve identified you want support to help work these out.
As a therapist I’ll provide a reliable, accepting and consistent relationship for you. In this trusting relationship you can explore and unpack the many different experiences that cause pain or confusion in your life.
Through working with me, I’ll provide my professional expertise, empathy and no judgement to help you understand the ways in which your history and experiences have shaped your life and identity. This will enable you to develop your self-awareness, find contentment and develop healthier relationships with yourself and others.
I understand that counselling is a significant step, so I offer a free, no-obligation consultation via phone for you to decide if I am the right person for you. This is an opportunity to ask me questions and to see if we are a good fit for you to begin working towards your own personal goals. I also offer open-ended therapy, letting you choose how long you'd like to work together for.
Counselling sessions are charged at £55 for a 60 minute session.
Limited slots are available for sessions at a reduced fee for counselling students as part of their training requirements.
Limited slots are available for those who are on a low-income (*evidence required) making counselling more accessible.
Below is a basic idea of what to expect from initial contact to the end of counselling. Although each clients experience is different the following outline will offer an idea of each step.
1. You make contact with me either via email (hello@sarah-henry.co.uk) or using the contact form.
2. We’ll agree a time to have a free 30-minute phonecall for you to ask questions and to see if you would like to work with me.
3. If you decide you’d like to work together we’ll have our first session. This will include
me gathering and sharing important information to ensure our work is safe.
4. We’ll have recurring sessions on a day and time we agree on.
5. We’ll periodically review the work we’ve done together to discuss how things are working for us.
6. You will decide when you want counselling to end* and we will work towards the ending where time permits.
* In the event that counselling has to end due to my circumstances (personal circumstances or a professional limit to my ability) I will endeavour to provide as much notice as possible and support you to find an appropriate professional service.
