I have contributed to the final work of Pete Sanders in his collaboration with Janet Tolan.
With first-hand experience of the impact of prejudice, discrimination and racial injustice and an ever increasing understanding of the fields of counselling and psychology, the chapter I have contributed offers and enlightening and accessible account of why acknowledging rather than ignoring racial difference is the key so appropriate mental healthcare provisions.
What I offer to readers in my chapter is a reflective and honest view of my experiences of race and racism from the position of patient, client, counsellor, trainer and as Sarah. The pages capture both historical and current issues of overmedicalising Black People as well as suggestions on how those in the counselling field can practice an anti-racist approach to their work.
I have review the work by Marcia Brissett-Bailey. The full book reiew can be found here: The bookshelf | October 2023 (bacp.co.uk)
